Superstart is a weekend youth conference for pre-teens. We had 8 youth go on the trip this year and we think everyone had a blast. The messages focused on encouraging youth to tell THEIR story in order to show what God has done for them in their own lives. Part of that story often includes overcoming obstacles. As part of Superstart, the students also got to meet Emily Durham, a regular competitor on the hit TV show American Ninja Warrior. And most importantly, God was glorified and the Gospel shared.
Trunk-or-Treat is one of our annual events at DCC as a safe alternative for those who want to Trick-or-Treat. This year was a bit rough due to the weather so we moved indoors. But not long after our meal ended, the power went out! The kids still had a good time and got plenty of candy. Some might have said it was extra spooky and perfect for the occasion.
Starve Hallow Campout
Driftwood once again had their campout at Starve Hallow. This year, most of the activities were scheduled for Saturday and included devotions, games, music, and lots of food. The public is always invited to join us at our campouts.
The Highchair Song
This was a bittersweet special for us here at Driftwood. Becky did sang The Highchair Song for us with all our infants and toddlers up on stage. When it was over, each of the children present that had at one point been a part of the Highchair Song came forward. With Steve and Becky leaving at the end of the year, this would be the last time we would hear the Highchair Song from Becky for our special.
Country Cruisin' Car Show
With over 70 vehicles registered, access to Tj's BBQ, some good desserts and live music from Justin Underwood, and absolutely beautiful weather, this was one great car show. Terry Fordice from the Community Church in Brownstown shared a message during the event.
Vacation Bible School
This year’s VBS theme was Pool Party. There were anywhere between 46 and 56 students in attendance each night, and we raised a total of $502.24 for our missionaries, Team Stocksdale, in Batswana. Classes were available for students entering preschool through high school.
Mission Team Pizza Sale
Driftwood is blessed with a very active missions team. While the team does receive monetary gifts from members of our congregation, they are also not afraid to work to raise funds for their trips. This time they sold and prepared hundreds of pizzas. And they do all this work so that they can send money to other people/places in need or to fund the work they do on their own mission trips. They are a group to be proud of.
Easter Egg Hunt
Driftwood had its annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 31st. There were about 80 people in attendance and over 800 eggs to gathered. The children also had an Easter Lesson and everyone got to enjoy some cookies and snacks.
A group from Driftwood went to WinterJam on February 10th and had an amazing time. Usually the group gets there late because of school but with the concert being on a Saturday this year, we were even able to get some decent seats.
Youth Group New Year's Eve Party
Driftwood Christian Church spent New Year's Eve with the youth from Brownstown Church of the Nazarene and the Brownstown Christian Church. The evening included games, a lesson on realistic and Christ-centered New Year's resolutions, some dinner, and 6 hours of laser-tag. It was a fantastic evening despite the bone-chilling weather outside.
